The Most Grievous Sin

A few days ago I did a talk for The Mother of Mercy Messengers, hosted by Joan and Dave Maroney. The title of the talk was advertised as “The Most Grievous Sin”, and was of course referring to abortion. When I first saw it I have to admit I felt myself cringe. Although I agree it is the most grievous sin, it can still be hard to own it even though I know without a doubt I have been forgiven.

Once I got past my initial reaction, I found myself laughing as I remembered an article the Marians did on me years ago. It was titled “The Greatest Sinners“.  I immediately thought, “boy those Marians sure know how to keep you humble!” The reality is, both of those titles are true and I decided to mention them in my talk. I then found out something I was unaware of, the quote the most grievous sin came from St Faustine.

85% of Warsaw was totally destroyed at the end of World War II. This event was prophesied by Saint Faustina Kowalska, who died in Krakow one year before the war began.

She wrote in her diary: “One day Jesus told me that He would cause a chastisement to fall upon the most beautiful city in our country [believed to be Warsaw]. This chastisement would be that with which God had punished Sodom and Gomorrah.” When her spiritual director asked her for what kind of sins God was going to inflict the punishment, she replied: “especially for the killing of infants not yet born, the most grievous crime of all.”

On another occasion, she described a vision of an angel of divine wrath about to “strike the earth, and in particular a certain place.” This place is believed to be Warsaw. Her prayers seemed useless until she found herself pleading with God for the world with words heard interiorly. In doing so, the Angel became helpless and could not carry out the just punishment due for sin. The words she heard interiorly are now known as the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

There is no doubt abortion is a grievous sin. Millions upon millions of unborn babies have been destroyed and millions and millions of souls lost because of the sin  of abortion, but we do not despair. In the midst of our misery arises His limitless Mercy at the cross, Jesus who made the ulitmate sacrifice, who died for our salvation. The cross, the only place where there love deep enough to heal our wounds and conquer abortion!

Jesus we trust in You!
